Robert Smith leads the Oversight and Monitoring team for the Deputy Chief Financial Officer (DCFO) Financial Improvement and Audit Remediation (FIAR) directorate within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) (OUSD(C)). In this role, he serves as the principal advisor to the FIAR Director for issues, policies and improvement opportunities in support of the audit governance process, managing audit roadmaps and oversight of the data within the Notice of Findings and Recommendations database. Additionally, Mr. Smith oversees the development and execution of machine learning products, aimed at gaining more insights from the Department’s contracting and audit data.
Mr. Smith has over 15 years of federal experience as a Risk Manager, developing and executing enterprise risk management programs. Prior to his current role, he has demonstrated accomplishments at the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and Intelligence Community evaluating risk, documenting processes, conducting compliance audits, policy development, generating reports, presenting to senior executives, and communicating with the larger organization.
Mr. Smith has a Bachelor of Science degree in both Finance and Accounting from George Mason University and holds a Project Management Profession certification.
