Vice Admiral William A. (“Andy”) Brown retired from the Navy in November 2017 after 37 years of Naval service, most recently serving as the Director of Logistics, Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.
After attending Virginia Military Institute, he was commissioned in the Navy in May 1980 as a Supply Corps Officer. His first 3-star flag officer position was as Deputy Commander, U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. In this position, he led efforts to ensure the importance of DoD and U.S. industry transportation and logistics capacity was employed to support day to day operations as well as contingency operations around the world.
As a flag officer, he also served as Director of Logistics (J4) at United States European Command, Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Germany, where he directed logistical support for U.S. forces assigned to the United States European Command theater of operations. Prior to assuming his position at EUCOM, he served as the Commander, Fleet and Industrial Supply Centers, San Diego, and Fleet Supply Officer at U.S. Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia.
